Body Grafts – Skinned Furniture

Nancy Green

Nancy Green imagines herself as furniture and grotesquely peels her taped-body to make leather patterns. The technique, traditionally used in shoe making, is ingeniously simple. It can capture the play of the body and expose the unknown patterns, shapes, and contours of ourselves as familiar objects. If the owner of Nancy’s furniture pattern wants to make use of its ironic function, they can request her to come and give this flaccid leather skin a body, her body. ‘Body Grafts’ is an alternative approach to making furniture. It is a relief from Design’s ever more boring ways. Nancy brings performance and humour. Making needn’t be complicated and industrial; you just need five rolls of masking tape and a body.
