Gas and oil extraction in Groningen have caused the earth to move; there is considerable anxiety about what to expect in the future. In 2012 the Dutch government initiated a research to estimate the risk of induced earthquakes in the area. Miriam van Eck brings the technical data from this ‘Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Analysis’ to a personal level with three objects: the Probabilistic Pins are a series of brass brooches representing the potential vibration intensity. The Borehole Light is a floor lamp that burns brighter when more gas is being extracted. And the Accelerating Line – a landscape installation – emanates different vibrations over a line that cuts through the area.
