How to Betray Own Memory before It Does It to Me
Min Kyung Seo
The constant insecurity of inevitably losing places once called home is becoming a widespread experience. For Min Kyung Seo a place only feels like her own through her subjective memories of it, which at the pace of the urban housing crisis, often only emerge once she has already lost the place. Using memory games and photographic methodologies, she has explored how to create subjective memories of her present home before she loses it. The resulting audio recordings and images are presented on deconstructed Ikea furniture and A4 copier paper, materials as generic as the houses. Does archiving lighten the burden of losing our homes?
