Mayke Krekel

## “In second-hand stores you’ll find a lot of unfinished embroidery kits. Why not finish them as we wait for our computers to reboot?”

Fascinated by the intricate art of embroidery, Mayke Krekel wants to revive this vanishing handicraft, which is mainly practised by older people. As life fastens, younger generations spend each spare minute on their phones or computers. Nobody has the time for painstaking needlework anymore. The only moments that we are not busy, is when our digital devices are loading. Instead of just staring at those annoying progress bars and buffering signs on our screens, we could also render them into a form of art to hang on our walls. With this project, Mayke connects two opposite worlds, inviting the digital generation to bring an age-old craft back to life.
