Human Mould
Matthieu Henry
Which comes first: the sitter or the couch? We make objects based on body size, the common measure of construction. Yet we are not the masters of our creations. Take the example of a couch. It forces us into particular positions, twisting us in certain ways: legs bent, back resting, feet planted on the ground. ‘Human Mould’ dives into this relationship between maker, object and user. Matthieu Henry takes the body as the mould for its own creation. He freezes a moment, a position, so that the object serves the exact purpose for which it was built. The result is a circle of creation in which the body feeds the object as much as the object feeds the body.
