The Collective Unconscious
Matilde Cappelletti
A set of costumes and masks visualises a personal interpretation of two personality archetypes that the designer identifies with.
Masks have always been a part of human culture, worn to blend in and hide our real selves. They were an ever-present element in the childhood of Matilde Cappelletti. That encouraged her to dig deeper into their meaning, which led her to discover the twelve universal personality archetypes outlined by Carl Jung. She chose the two archetypes she felt closest to and represented them through costumes and masks. The ‘Rebel’ became a figure wearing a heavy, black ceramic dress with a spiky red headpiece as a mask. The ‘Lover’ focuses on sensuality. The woven dress comes with a mask made from pieces of wood that Matilde’s grandmother collected on the seashore.
