Charming the Tubes
Mathis Broussot
Bauhaus metal tubes in furniture are a symbol of modernity. The chrome tubes have become a fixed standard. Mathis Broussot wanted to find new possibilities for this design tradition by adding playfulness and flexibility. Using PVC tubing, he explored different shapes and connections and developed a way to clip the loose segments together. Aiming to offer people the pleasure of assembling their own furniture, Mathis then translated the PVC research into aluminium modules. Without the need for screws, glue or welding, this modular system in aluminium allows people to design objects for themselves. The tradition becomes manipulable.
