We All Wish

Masaya Kochi

"At its core, it is an abstract human database."

WHAT Make a wish, and this interactive installation will upload it to the collective ‘wish cloud’. This project — a digital exploration of the Japanese Ema ritual — is aimed at bridging the gap between ancient traditions and new media. WHY Whereas Shinto worshippers hang their wishes on public shrines for others to read, this application has a much wider reach: it allows wishes to transcend borders. HOW We all wish, albeit in different ways. Masaya has designed a common ground for this universal longing, without having to visit a shrine to leave a prayer or go to a fountain to toss in a coin. Simply swipe your deepest aspirations from your phone into the cloud and watch it come to life through the installation.
