Bohemian Crystal
In most Czech households, including those of Marie Kolářová's grandparents, treasured handmade glassware is stored in cabinets and reserved for special occasions. However, rising energy costs and declining demand now threaten this traditional craft, rooted in the country’s rich glassmaking heritage. Marie reimagines this endangered art by repurposing leftover sheet glass to create a collection of nesting vases. She hand-cuts traditional patterns into the glass using a diamond grindstone, blending these timeless motifs with contemporary rectangular forms that suit modern interiors. By collaborating closely with craftsmen local to the Šumava mountains, Marie aims to preserve this cultural legacy, adapting it for a new generation that values sustainability alongside artistry.
