Flaws, Riddles and Loops
Fascinated by the potential of computer-controlled milling machines (CNC), Marie Judith Le Gars challenges the machines’ reliance on board materials by developing a method which incorporates raw, local woods. What would happen if we look at this technology from a material perspective? This project explores the balance between local sourcing, producing, and material properties. Using the machine’s extreme precision, Marie Judith developed a system of joints, engravings, patches, and hinges. This ‘puzzle’ enables the connection of various sizes of wood without using glue or fittings. ‘Flaws, Riddles and Loops’ investigates new intersections between the material and the machine to develop hybrid forms of wood craft.
