Graduation project
Café Inclusiveness
Marianne Guermonprez
A performance with a specially developed toolkit to help people with symptoms of autism in communicating with live audiences.
This project is based on a series of shows in which Marianne Guermonprez tells the ‘Green Lentil Curry Fairy Tale’, which addresses food distribution circuits. As a student struggling with symptoms of autism, Marianne developed a toolkit to communicate with live audiences. Tools included text scrolls, pictographic texts and a lexicon of body gestures developed during a number of performances in venues such as the Zbar café at DAE. The show is structured around two scenes: the ‘prompt scene’ and the ‘live scene’. The latter faces the audience and features the storyteller performing the fairy tale simultaneously in movements and words. Fusing movement and language, ‘Café Inclusiveness’ blends social ownership and written storytelling.
