If bamboo and 3D printing were to befriend each other, how would they get along? In industrial production, bamboo is challenging to process. Answering this challenge, Marguerite Perianu combines 3D printing technology with the organic properties of bamboo. She started out by intimately getting to know the organic characteristics of bamboo. Rather than over-processing or denaturing the material, she figured out how to use its inherent properties and modelled her technique around it. She makes only a few cuts on the bamboo and then prints strong connecting parts, each of which is especially fitted to embrace its bamboo stem. ‘bamboo.stl’ proposes a new method to create durable, long-lasting indoor furniture.
