Still Blue

"We might not all get to see the people that shaped us again, but they are rooted in us. 'Still Blue' by Maayke Mutsaerds is an ode to her mother, who Maayke lost at a young age. Exploring the technique of cyanotype as a meditative activity, 'Still Blue' creates a space for emotional reflection and mourning. Through written reflections and the making of cyanotypes of leaves and flowers as artifacts, memories are created and revived. The project proposes a book with step-by-step explanations of the techniques which Maayke applied in the process of creating.

Building on personal reflections, the project presents a garment which can be worn layered over one of her mother's original dresses, allowing Maayke to wear her past with pride and making grief something to be talked about."
