The Wind We’ll Never Meet
Lucia Fabbri
An exploration of ways in which the Beaufort scale, made to measure wind intensity, can adapt and respond to the declining presence of wind.
From the global circulation of air to the pollination of a flower, the presence of wind is vital for sustaining life on Earth. Recent climate data indicating a decrease in wind thus rightly raise concerns. The Wind We’ll Never Meet delves into the Beaufort wind force scale, a tool developed over two centuries ago for measuring wind intensity. Throughout its history, the scale has undergone multiple revisions to accommodate evolving needs and technological advancements. Remarkably, it continues to be relevant today, in particular for its characteristic of connecting scientific measurements to everyday observations of the landscape. The project explores ways in which the Beaufort scale can adapt and respond to the declining presence of wind.
