Atlas of Internet Geography

Lucas Dubois

“The internet redefines territories, borders and ownership”

What: The ‘Atlas of Internet Geography’ sheds light on the internet’s complex infrastructure by examining its geopolitical organisation. Why: Internet is a physical network of cables, but it is not subject to clear legislation. Governments, businesses and individuals communicate through the internet. Even so, it is built by companies with unclear access to our personal information. Lucas Dubois questions our misguided understanding of the cloud, which allows the internet to redefine territories, borders and ownership. How: The installation consists of 50 models and maps of key internet nodes: United States, Brazil, Singapore, Egypt and GAFAM (Google, Amazon, Facebook, Apple and Microsoft). The project emphasises the importance of key players, whose connections represent a form of colonisation of internet infrastructure.
