The Acoustic Symbol of Peace (The Peace Engine)

This installation challenges the current symbols for peace. “The concept of peace is elusive and layered: its symbol should reflect this complexity and be neutral,” says Lucandrea Baraldi. The CND anti-war sign is internationally recognised, but peace is so much more than that. Looking for a sign that has it all, Baraldi turned from vision to sound. In his Peace Engine you can give your own interpretation of peace by singing, humming or speaking. The signal is transferred and processed by a clever algorithm that resolves the conflicts of frequency, amplitude and rhythm, creating a universal language. The outcome is ‘The Acoustic Symbol of Peace’.
