Clay Bodies
"A maker sculpts clay to their will, defining sharp lines and smoothing surfaces into glossy anonymity. This obsessive control limits the expression of both material and self. From this dissatisfaction, Luana Soto Aguerrevere works to dismantle unconscious creative demand.
Through a circular action, she creates temporarily existing 'Clay Bodies'. Intuitive and experimental wheel throwing reveals clay objects with cavities, crevices, and canals. These shapes, called 'organs,' come together to form a body. They are then dissected, photographed, documented on paper and archived before returning to her bucket. Inspired by her ceramist mother and geologist father, Luana's laboratory for Clay Bodies highlights the material’s inherent textures, allowing clay to express itself freely while challenging traditional notions of productivity and design value.
