Home(sick) Landscapes

Louise Koopmans

Visiting Karpendonske Plas, a small lake in Eindhoven, Louise Koopmans was struck by homesickness for her native Switzerland. Instead of enjoying the scenery, she felt herself longing for a plunge into Lake Geneva with her hometown friends. Fascinated by her feelings, she started to research this melancholy but also bewildering state of mind. To break down barriers for her fellow expats, Koopmans proposes a new waterfront design for Karpendonske Plas. ‘Home(sick) Landscapes’ brings fragments of familiar sites from eighteen countries to Eindhoven – ranging from a Turkish beach, Japanese cherry blossom park or an Italian gondola jetty.
