Farewell Future

Louis-Paul Caron

## “The current environmental situation obligates us to deviate from the future we imagined, and start telling stories that bring a hopeful and realistic world to life.”

‘Farewell Future’ is an animated short movie that questions the notion of ‘progress’ for the world we want to shape. The story is a metaphor of humanity, which must radically change its perspective and abandon its desire for energy-consuming high technology and unlimited growth. We follow a woman grieving for a futuristic world she dreamed of but will never know, an irrational future doomed to perish. In transit from one era to another, she’s left with nostalgia for a time that never happened. At the same time, she’s hoping for a new future and dreams of a new Science Fiction where most technologies are based on resilient and ‘low-tech’ systems.
