A reminder that a war is still raging in Ukraine, while we all go about our daily lives, is presented in the format of a real-time strategy game.
‘Power Off’ is a real-time strategy (RTS) game that confronts players with the fact that – while we all go about our daily lives – there is a war on our doorstep. It is set in a friendly town, with an appealing central square and a colourful funfair. But one click away from the lovely town centre, the unsuspecting players stumble upon a military compound, with gloomy army barracks and tanks. Then it becomes clear that the one behind the console has to send the soldiers into town. As the camera shifts, the happy scenes change into horror scenes, with real life videos from the Ukrainian warzone. Bombs drop, colours fade and the tune saddens, displaying the painful impact of those who seek power through warfare.
