Domesticated Rivers
As we aim to restore our connection to nature, we build tree-covered skyscrapers and ornamental waterfalls to enhance the urban environment. Researching the trend to domesticate nature, Liza Willemsen suggests that we take a look at the water that flows through our own homes; we seem to forget that it, too, comes from the wild. Her digitally rendered documentary follows the marketing strategy of the future Van Gogh National Park (VGNP), conjuring up beautiful beach paradises and river landscapes in water-consuming washing machines, radiators and toilets. Isn’t it strange that we still flush the toilet with drinking water? Her advice to VGNP: live up to the claim of being a smart region and challenge the Brainport partners to design more sustainable solutions.
