Copy Copy
Copying is an inescapable aspect of life. In some ways, it is how we learn, in others it is how our cells regenerate. In the field of design however, copying is often regarded as a taboo, generally prohibited through legal restrictions. The concept of designing something new is held sacred – but is it really so bad to imitate something that has been done before? With ‘Copy Copy’, Leon Barre explores a world where copying can be a playful and genuine act of participation. In a series of public workshops, participants are shown a cup, and are asked to make a copy of this ‘original’ using clay and tools provided. Each cup is made with its own imperfections and interpretations that helps to redefine notions of authorship altogether.
