Border Line

Lelya Kimel

Borders are often hotly contested between countries in conflict. Yet, as Lelya Kimel explores, the very act of creating a clear, physical divide can actually bring countries closer. Both sides have to enter into a dialogue, work together, and overcome the heritage of hatred to be able to sit down and reach an agreement. Once the boundary has been determined, physical markers are placed along the exact route. ‘Border Line’ is an installation that showcases the different markers used along borders across the globe. Their existence embodies a paradoxical duality: made to separate, at the same time, they also symbolise a connection.
