Auto Craft

Laurids Gallee

This table was designed to be the carrier of a technique: a contemporary interpretation of the old craft of marquetry. When the industrial revolution with its mass production took flight, hand-crafted, ornamented furniture became too expensive. Ultimately it ceased to be made. Laurids Gallee has used the speed and advantages of modern laser-engraving and dyeing techniques to reintroduce the idea. The pattern and colours of ‘Auto Craft’ originated in classical ornamentation and are dictated by the technology and production method used. The result is a real eye-catcher among the clean lines and monochromes that prevail in furniture today.
