Graduation project
Foolish man and Wise tree
Lars van Bergen
## “It would be a dream to design something as perfect as a tree.”
Lars van Bergen envies trees for their ingenious design. A tree uses its own waste for energy, provides shelter, reduces air pollution, is an expert in water management and relieves stress. Inspired by what trees can do, Lars designed his own forest – not to equal nature, but to show what it can teach us. His collection of artificial green giants compares the foolishness of mankind to the wisdom of trees. Re-used man-made materials symbolise the struggle to solve our problems. Gas masks, ventilation pipes, vacuum cleaners, water hoses, oil drums and isolation materials grow into a magical woodland, pointing out the need to restore the natural balance.
