The Recycle Bin Project

Karl Moubarak

## “In the future, files are co-owned, data is co-hosted, bandwidth is distributed and trash is recycled.”

When it comes to the internet, we are dangerously dependent on the servers of third parties like Google or Facebook. Rather than passively consuming what is served to us, we should own and serve our own data, says Karl Moubarak. ‘The Recycle Bin Project’ promotes more active engagement with the internet. This desktop application that can be downloaded from serveyourtra.sh is a twin of the regular desktop bin. But instead of simply collecting and deleting unwanted files, the Recycle Bin gives them a second life by launching them into a peer-to-peer network. With a plain ‘are you sure?’ question when you hit the delete button, it changes your attitude towards digital trash and coaches you to become a conscious user.
