Training for: A Biased Confrontation
Kaan Hiçyılmaz
A performative installation explores training the body to produce biased information that deceives surveillance algorithms.
Surveillance technology no longer only collects information about the human body, it now also generates human bodies to produce the information it seeks. Training for: A Biased Confrontation sets up an environment where Kaan Hiçyılmaz's body is instead trained to produce biased information that undermines accurate inference. Four training stations offer instructional narratives based on different military deception techniques. Cameras, aided by a trained computer model, classify detected movements. Viewers become surveillants, observing Hiçyılmaz's continuous pursuit of biased codes. The question arises, will the human and technological actors strive to be more compliant or more biased towards each other?
