Playing With Power
Between the increasing demand for electricity and a climate crisis that urges more sustainable electrical production, a global energy crisis is underway. The scale and design of the European electrical grid, which connects 35 countries and is entangled in a global supply chain, also renders it fragile. Individuals do not have much understanding of the electrical system nor alternatives. Engineer turned designer Julian Gresham sought to explore new relationships with electricity through interventions in domestic space that give people agency in their electrical infrastructure. A toolkit of objects facilitates a better understanding of electrical infrastructure and creates disconnected microcosms within a connected domestic environment.
