As our ideals of beauty are based on flawless perfection, Julia Thomann paints a picture of a distant future where we have been granted eternal youth. Thanks to the infinite powers of technology humans have evolved into hybrid beings with biological features beyond our imagination. ‘Transcendent Skin’ visualises a future trend of skin adornment initiated by a hybrid tribe in order to honour their human ancestors. Nostalgia for the days when the human skin still showed the signs of time will cast a new perspective on the so-called flaws of nature. The structured wrinkles and scars emphasise the beauty of the defects we desperately try to erase now.
