Magnetic Attraction

Joost Dankelman

Fascinated by the invisible power of magnets, Joost Dankelman designed a series of lamps that play with this force of nature. ‘Magnetic Attraction’ comprises three lights that show how magnetism can defy gravity. They all have two opposite poles, eager to meet the other one. But the design does not allow a true connection: they never touch, but hover in thin air, like magic. One only burns when its antipole is close, the other changes from a direct spotlight to an ambient light and the third appears to bend the rules as it turns the world upside down – or does it?
