Retracing of the Beings
All living things are never truly dead until they are forgotten by the world. As we spend more time online, we leave increasingly more digital traces behind. What if these could be seen as an entity in themselves? Even when our physical universe stops, our life carries on through memories left in laptops, phones, cloud storage and data centres. In a speculative video work, Jihyun Hong ponders this subject through experimental narratives and visuals. Scattered fragments of leftover data – social media posts, messages, photographs – are shown through hypnotic and digitally fragmented images, with a voiceover that reflects on how these traces can be understood as an echo of previous acts and thoughts from our multiple virtual identities.
