The Dose Makes the Poison

Jenni Maier

“Metal is essential to life”

What: A family of everyday metal items that become a source of dietary minerals when they are used. Why: Can objects become a nutritional resource? Jennifer Maier researched the mild leaching process of prime materials, unlocking their hidden health potential. She designed a series of kitchen utensils that leak vital elements into our food and drinks. How: A ginger grater takes care of our body’s need for iron. A coffee filter provides the essential copper ions. A radish slicer adds molybdenum to raw vegetables. A zinc strainer gives off its zinc when lemon is applied. And a stainless steel strainer boosts a cup of green tea with a touch of manganese and chromium. “Metal is essential to life”
