Hinged

Jelmer Wind

Jelmer Wind is fascinated by the little devices that allow doors to open or close. He has plunged into the working of hinges, which normally stay hidden: how do they move, what do they do and what can they add to a product? His research led to ‘Hinged’, a cabinet that is all about disclosure. The extremely enlarged hinges are the eye catchers of the design; the transparent bamboo structure that shows the beauty of the mechanics has been continued on all sides of the cabinet, revealing what is inside. Despite the see-through effect, curiosity about how it works still makes you want to open the doors.
