The Bed

Using the house they share together in Brussels as a testing ground, Salomé Louise Sperling and Jaime leBleu seek to question the ways that our domestic spaces are standardised and built around generic conventions. Looking at their bed as a starting point, the couple analysed it through a number of different analogies, reconceptualising it as a ‘lovers’ den’, ‘ingenuity cloud’, ‘ceiling observatorium’ and ‘consciousness loosener’. This research was then translated into a re-imagined version of the classic object, taking into account the cultural aspects as well as the relationship they each had towards their own bed.
