Magnifying Tapestries
Iris van Nunen
A series of wall hangings shows the beauty of weaving patterns by scaling them up.
Magnifying Tapestries' is a series of wall hangings that refer to illustrations of educational textile composition booklets of the early 20th century. The project honours the art of textiles by scaling patterns up in size to display the complexity and beauty of textile weaving. As if you’re looking through a magnifying glass, the material and technique is shown in different scales, opening up an unusual perspective on weaving patterns. With this process, van Nunen addresses the importance of slowing down, zooming in and analysing what is right in front of us—a magnificent way to look at things from a different perspective.
