Graduation project
Artificial Wasteland
Ignacio Subías Albert
# “As much as the perfect lawn dissipates question marks about the natural, I would like to pose them.”
What is beautiful and what is ugly in nature? Ignacio Subias chose the lawn as an instrument to explore his fascination with the topic. Lawns are treasured and regarded as visually pleasing, as they portray nature in a way that is comforting to us: always growing, always green, homogeneous and comprehensible. However, nature also decays, it may not be clean-cut, and welcomes irrationality. To challenge the ‘ideal’ image that we create and reproduce, Ignacio presents three new versions of artificial grass. With painstaking perfection they showcase the supposed imperfections of grass that is either withered, trampled or infested with weeds.
