Seavilization

Helena Mossel

This century, due to rising sea levels, coastal erosion and increased extreme weather events, hundreds of cities around the world could be confronted by the ocean. Our future is often portrayed as a chaotic and helpless struggle. Experts such as Jan Rotmans however see it as a transitional period where we can learn to do better, build better and live with water instead of fighting it. ‘Seavilisation’ is an interactive installation that envisions this future, using augmented reality and the innate tendency we all have to play with sand. The user can shape the sand and experience the possible transformations of the new waterscape. By doing this, everyone can visualize our future and learn to see it as a world of opportunities.
