Felt Like a Sheep
Guilhem de Cazenove’s mobile wool processing unit re-values a by-product of sheep farming, which has become focused on meat and milk production. Fleece is no longer worth the cost of shearing. The transportation of this raw product has become increasingly regulated. Travelling from one shepherd to another, this project intends to reverse this development. Shepherds will no longer be left with a raw product; they will produce an end product of washed wool. Gathering people around actions such as degreasing, washing, drying, carding and felting helps preserve these age-old traditional skills. And the workshop also offers a place to discuss opportunities for local revitalization.
