Now Here in Nowhere
Geraldine Spilker
Geraldine Spilker believes that with the steady demise in the West of religion, with its structure and the emphasis on something bigger than ourselves, we are losing a crucial component of our humanity. Dedication, contemplation and honouring are valuable assets. Her project ‘Now here in Nowhere’ intends to reintroduce the sacred into our lives by creating a place for it in our homes. It picks up on the traditional idea of the family altar, a place devoted to personal sacred objects and memories. The material Geraldine has used, stained glass, gives a familiar sense of religiosity, but the design is a contemporary interpretation.
