Finding a Digital Letter-form

Gang Buron-Yi

## “I couldn’t really tell if I’m making the computer create the letters, or if the computer is making me create them.”

Gang Buron-Yi is fascinated by the interaction between computer systematics and human intuition. In his project ‘Finding a Digital Letter-form’ he creates endless quantities of intriguing letter-forms by interfering with the computer’s set of rules through his personal intuitive choices. Gang compares the process to the making of puff pastry, in which layers of dough and butter are piled up by constant folding and rolling out. Likewise, the letter-forms emerge from step-by-step layering of Gang’s intuitive choices on top of the computer’s systematic execution. The final product of this project is a video work explaining the process while displaying the unexpected letter-forms that result from it.
