THE EMPTY ISLAND
Fascinated by mankind’s capacity to create, Gabrielle Riant designs tools that allow people of all ages and backgrounds to shape the world collectively. Since she believes that everyone is the expert of their own needs, Gabrielle wants to ban ‘expertocracy’. Her Empty Island workshop focusses on a teenager perspective. What can we learn from them? Teenagers are very critical but also very creative; they dare to dream. As participants, they have to settle on a desert island and start a new society from scratch. The game can help teachers to coach their students into co-creation and to have them reflect on the values of life. The outcomes can be uploaded to a digital platform, providing researchers and designers with valuable insights.
