The Impact of Every Second
Most of us are procrastinators when it comes to saving the planet – which also goes for decision makers. We all know that the impact of climate change is devastating. But as it happens imperceptibly slow and the effects show up elsewhere, the urgency to act now is not felt. But did you know that every second 100,000 m2 of land catches fire, an ice block of 38,000 m3 melts and 400 m2 of land becomes permanently unusable for agriculture or nature? Floor van der Wal designed a mobile installation for places where climate policies are made. By showing that every second counts, he adds something new to the IPCC reports and television images of fires, floods and melting ice caps: the clock is on fire.
