Blye Turk

Elif Ozbay

As a daughter of immigrants Elif Ozbay speaks two languages: Turkish and Dutch. Or three? The fluency she and her contemporaries have in Dutch is not shared by the generation above them. But when in Turkey, she finds that her Turkish is not on a par with that of the natives. To solve the communication problem, Turks in the Netherlands have developed a kind of third language, a middle ground that mixes the two vocabularies and the different grammars. ‘Blye Turk’ is their spokeswoman. Read all about the successful developments around this subject on her ongoing blog!
