Collective Sensors

Elias Hintermayr

"Collective Sensors transforms the mobile phone into a collaborative tool for knowledge creation in education. The project unfolds in three stages: first, students use an adaptable code framework to explore phone sensors; next, they collectively sense a shared moment from varied viewpoints; finally, the programme integrates the sensory inputs into a multisensory artefact.

This initiative redefines the role of cell phones and challenges traditional schooling, which often limits learning to memorization and regurgitation of standardized content, excluding inquiry-based learning and keeping students in passivity. Collective Sensors questions this paradigm by emphasizing learning as a collaborative effort resulting from the negotiation of different perspectives on phenomena. This method encourages active engagement with one's environment and transforms learning into an ongoing exploration and dialog."
