Melodic Gesture

Edern Janneau

In many sports, athletes unconsciously use the sound of their movements to assess their skills. When a footballer like Ronaldinho hits the crossbar several times in a row, he enters another dimension. He is not only an athlete intent on winning, but a creative artist engaged in a highly sensitive performance. ‘Melodic Gesture’ embodies this relationship between motion and sound. The two players can either compete with or complement each other. Their movements are processed and instantly translated into a symphony that heightens our understanding of the reciprocity between the two phenomena. Players hear the harmonious effect of their motion, and spectators experience sounds answering gestures. Around this table, sport isn't only a competitive stake but a shared creative experience.
