WHAT A coffee set that questions the idea of ‘normality’ by introducing unexpected variations such as extra handles or missing pieces. WHY In the small town where Doris Verlaat grew up, she never felt quite like she fit in with the accepted local ‘norm’. Daily get-togethers over coffee were a fixture of village life; a time to gossip and discuss who did or didn’t fit the mould. And so with this coffee set, Doris plays with the mould, creating more freedom for differences. HOW At first, the cups and saucers appear ‘odd’ or mismatched, but a closer look reveals that the different elements are the same; they are just composed differently.
