Mare Incognitum
The Mediterranean Sea is materially a huge body of water that has become the site of multiple constructed narratives serving capitalist exploitation and extraction. Political regulations based on economic ideals determine who is granted certain rights, and who is barely considered human. Research into the origins and implications of these arbitrary constructions is presented in an audio-visual installation entailing an extra-wide video projection obstructed by amphorae — huge vessels signifying the constructed nature of history. The multitude of complexities and the discrepancies between representation and reality is captured through texts, visuals and voice-overs overlaid on glitchy 3D reconstructions and choppy hand shot sailing footage.
