Out of the Bubble

Daniele Musio

The information we consume on the internet is completely
tailored to our individual interests and tastes. As we browse,
‘like’, purchase, subscribe and comment online, predictive
algorithms monitor and analyse each aspect of our online
behaviour, creating an increasingly comfortable filter bubble
that leaves no room for surprise. Daniele Musio’s ‘Out of
the Bubble’ intends to disrupt this state of splendid isolation.
It is not doing us any favours. The more we live inside our
cosy bubble, the less chance there is for new discoveries or
conflict. And these are what make us grow. How can we
be tempted to look beyond the limits of our preferences and
beliefs? Is there room for opposing points of view and an
exchange of ideas? This design project aims to break through
the filters by adjusting the personalised platforms we use
for social interaction. ‘Out of the Bubble’ does this by adding
new perspectives to the way we inform ourselves, and the
information we receive. It aims to strengthen the public debate
as an essential part of our democratic societies.
