Terminus Europa

Claudio della Schiava

European Union member states are increasingly corrupting the narrative of continent-wide borderless travel through the politics of fear, control and exclusion. While these borders are not physical walls, lines or fences, EU members police them by reintroducing patrols and ID checks. Although intended to be temporary, a regulatory loophole in the Schengen Border Code allows them to extend these measures indefinitely, facilitating racialising practices at internal Schengen borders and creating a fractured, directional union. Terminus Europa maps out these internal borders through an informative performance, revealing the corroding trust between the member states of the Schengen Area.
