Uncovering an Iceberg

Clara Sika Helbo

The results of an investigation into the forced contraception campaigns led by the Danish government in Greenland are presented through an archive and film.

In the decade between 1966 and 1976, Danish doctors forcibly inserted 4,500 intrauterine devices (IUDs) into Greenlandic girls and women without their consent. Naja Lyberth, a victim, sparked an investigation by the Danish government in May 2022. Concurrently, Clara Sika, a Danish native with ties to Greenland, initiated her own inquiry. Uncovering an Iceberg is a research project spanning Denmark, Greenland, and the United States, utilizing exclusive archival access, victim accounts, and interviews with journalists, lawyers, and medical professionals. Exposing the hidden mechanisms behind these nefarious policies, it reveals a global forced contraception campaign targeting minority women through International Planned Parenthood. The project supports the brave women seeking justice, uncovering the program’s global magnitude.
